and fought his assigned birth—
a baby formed by
disease—male genitalia—
feminine homosexual
wife—removed themself,
forced inside surgery.

Jie V. Cohen is a mixed, intersex writer and author of the chapbook VENUS LIMBS (Thirty West, 2025) whose work has been recognized or is forthcoming in The Offing, The Minnesota Review, Hayden's Ferry Review, Strange Horizons, The Ex-Puritan, Singapore Unbound, POETS.org, and others. Their poem THE FUTURE received a Best of the Net award in 2023. Their poem fairy-cherry was selected as the winner of the 2024 Singapore Unbound Poetry Prize. They read for Electric Literature and ANMLY. They teach ELA in Turkmenistan.
