Happy Holidays!
This newsletter arrives a bit later than usual. Snow flurries plummet to the ground as I write this. Leaves are being raked and salt is dumped onto the sidewalks. Many holiday festivities hit the TW camp quickly this year. I may not remember all of the highs and lows, but it’s the living that counts.
TW has lived through many successful things. Our authors published marvelous books. 10 titles in total. The masthead was phenomenally supportive, with some of our editors partaking in events. We invented new things like this very newsletter/lit journal hybrid, Afterimages, fostering the Westies Book Club, and helping people kickstart their writing year with “The Fresh Start Contest”. We revived the #antiwrimo project for a second time, too. These are all indications of innovation, community, and having fun with the written word.
I like to think that 2024 will be a perfect time to recapture the joys of writing and publishing. You could be invested somewhere else. A personal hobby, a familial obligation. Maybe you are being an ideal literary citizen and partaking in a gazillion things (which is still awesome and commendable). Regardless of your attention, I’m glad you’re here, reading this post right now.
The Extra Bits
We will be announcing more authors for 2024 as well as some submission calls soon.
There will be 2 Afterimages essays in the coming weeks, followed by an interview with Anna Vangala Jones to close out 2023.
Our 2nd #antiwrimo project is in full swing. Want to be credited in the final book and share some niceties with the 9 authors and editors? Check it out here.
The Westies Book Club is starting soon. We gave away a free year this week & donated the proceeds to charity. You can still join us in 2024. The yearly catalog is only $100 in one sum or $12 per month in 12 installments. January will be here soon, and so will Nicole Rivas’s debut, TENDER HOOF: STORIES. Ross McMeekin and Joshua Rodriguez to follow. Get your card & swag for the holidays. You, or a book lover you know, deserve a literary gift.
Talk to you soon and enjoy the holidays, wherever you are.
