Thirty West Newsletter - March 2024
Our 2nd book, novel titles revealed, and plenty of Afterimages
Hi,
I’ll keep this newsletter short to not disturb your busy lives. But pay attention, please. There are big things to speak about from Camp Thirty West.
Around my parts, it’s now ‘mud season’ so I can’t hike all that well. Made it not even a quarter mile and my boot treads were clogged. This is a shame because BELOW THE FALLS is coming out in a few weeks. I want to take the book outside for some photos. Soon enough, the sun will favor us.
“In Below The Falls, Ross McMeekin’s stories, taut and at times taciturn, but polished and finely wrought, explore many lives in many places with empathy, understanding, and hope.”
—Edward J Delaney, author of The Acrobat and The Big Impossible
“McMeekin is a first-rate storyteller who cares greatly for his characters, who entertains his readers with a depth of feeling, who shows us how life is and how it could be if we’d just slow down.”
—Tommy Dean, author of Hollows
“Ross McMeekin can pack a whole life into a miraculously small space, compact it into a single page. From the complicated love between a father and son in the title story, to a boy running for his life with a mouthful of stolen seeds, this collection contains marvels of compression, characterization, strangeness, and imagination.”
—Ash Davidson, author of Damnation Spring
If you’ve been tagging along, you may have seen The Ternion post earlier this month. Now, we officially have titles. JULIE, OR SYLVIA, ESCAPING EMILY, and SPARK BIRD. Three novels. Nine authors. Domestic and international. Myself and trusted TW editors are hard at work with editing and typesetting these intriguing books. Keep following for official author spotlights.
We still have the support group running. Small monetary tips, and words of encouragement. Whatever your fancy, your name will be printed in the final books’ acknowledgments. That and the authors will adore you for it. A huge capstone to the #antiwrimo movement, possibly forever.
Aside from newsletters, our publishing calendar has been shaped nicely. Plenty of nonfiction, interviews, and fiction that have passed or are queued up. We appreciate you reading, for it gives us ideas of where a lot of our internet traffic ends up. Plus, these writers are talented and should be read, that’s a no-brainer.
Wherever you are reading this, I hope you get some fresh air soon. Replace your air filters (window A/C and central air system.)
-Josh D.
