Thirty West Newsletter - May 2023
Poetry fans, welcome a debutant. An extended opportunity awaits. A contest longlist is coming soon.
Hi there. It’s been a wonderful month celebrating poetry. So much so, that we’re keeping it going with a fresh presale.
We’re thrilled to publish UK poet, Sy Brand, this month. Their debut chapbook, CLOUD PICKER, examines the relationships between humans, other humans, and nature; the blurred lines between them all, and the joy and pain of their interactions.
The first 50 units will be limited edition, which includes our traditional, saddle-stitching and some extras to be announced. Only from Thirty West.
Advance Praise for Cloud Picker
"These poems spill over with delight in life. They're thirsty for sensation, hungry for joy; these poems lift up moments in time and say, look! Look at this! Isn't it beautiful? And it is. There's so much beauty that sometimes it's hard to cope, and sometimes it hurts, and Sy Brand has put all that and more into words."
—Harry Josephine Giles, author of Deep Wheel Orcadia
Afterimages obtained so much attention for National Poetry Month. There’s good news: I decided to extend the call for submission for the rest of the year. More categories have been included. We’re really looking for well-structured serials, semi-regular columns, and reviews (particularly of our books.)
Lastly, the 7th Wavelengths contest longlist is coming. We really can’t thank our readers and guest judge enough for showing up for a record year. If your submission has made it this far, there is a good chance you’ll be in it. Keep an eye on your email/Submittable, but please get some fresh air after a while. :)
A likely Part 2 of this newsletter will arrive later. In the meantime, check out our 2023 Catalog to catch up on authors we’ve published and those who are coming up. Maybe donate a couple of bucks on Patreon to offset operational costs? Take care.
